Spanning over 30,821 hectares, the national park is located in the centre of Udawalawe reservoir fed by the Walawe river. The Park is known as one of the ideal spots to view elephants at close range. You will also have the opportunity to witness other wildlife such as Sambar deer, wild Buffalo, Mongoose, Bandicoots, Fox, water Monitor Lizards, Crocodiles, Sloth bears and the occasional leopard. There are also around 30 varieties of snakes and an abundance of birdlife. Unlike some parks, Udawalawe is excellent for wildlife sightings throughout the year due to its consistent water sources
