Raffles Hotel Singapore is steeped in history, and is undoubtedly the city’s most iconic hotel. Established in 1887, and named after the founder of Singapore, Sir Stamford Raffles, this was the first of Singapore’s many luxury hotels to be built, and a symbol of the country’s colonial origins.
Raffles Hotel enjoys a prime location close to the city’s top attractions, just a short walk from Marina Bay and its long Esplanade, perfect for a stroll, as well as cultural attractions such as the National Gallery of Singapore. Across the way you also have the enormous Raffles City, a vast shopping centre filled with department stores, clothing stores and places to eat, where you can shop to your heart’s content.
From the minute you first see its instantly recognisable and elegant architecture, the Raffles Hotel will transport you into another era – the golden age of travel. The five-star hotel oozes glamour and sophistication, with its high ceilings, polished wooden floors, lofty windows, open verandahs and lush expansive gardens.
Hotel Facilities
You needn’t even venture out of the hotel to enjoy some of Singapore’s famous shopping: one part of the hotel is home to Raffles Arcade, a shopping centre with over 40 clothing, lifestyle and luxury stores as well as several popular restaurants. Here you’ll also find the Raffles Spa, offering a variety of relaxing and rejuvenating treatments.
Dining Options
Raffles Hotel is home to nine top bars and restaurants, offering everything from casual to high-end dining. Fine dining options are plentiful, from the French-inspired La Dame du Pic to the high-end Chinese cuisine at Yi by Jereme Leung, the Mediterranean flavours at BBR by Alain Ducasse, and the finest grilled steaks at Butcher’s Block. For a more relaxed setting, sample tasty North Indian cuisine at The Tiffin Room, or kick back with a refreshing drink in the Raffles Courtyard. The sophisticated Writers Bar is also the perfect place to while the night away with expertly-crafted cocktails.
Home of the Singapore Sling
No stay at the Raffles Hotel is complete without sampling their signature cocktail, and one of the world’s most famous: the Singapore Sling, which can be enjoyed at the historic Long Bar. First crafted at this very spot in 1915 by bartender Ngiam Tong Boom, the Singapore Sling is now Singapore’s national drink, a gin-based cocktail made with pineapple juice, grenadine, cherry liqueur, lime juice, curacao and Benedictine. Not to be missed during your visit to Singapore.
