Discover the ‘real’ Bali and escape off the beaten track with this small group tour to the centre of Bali, visiting mountains, farms, ancient villages and temples. There’s more to Bali than just sun, sand and surf and this tour of Bali’s rural interior aims to show you exactly that. This day tour visiting Jatiluwih village and the Batukaru mountains is one of several excellent optional excursions you can choose to add on to your return stopover in beautiful Bali.
The day begins with an early start, departing from your hotel and continuing past the urban sprawl of Denpasar, which will soon be left behind as your air-conditioned minivan journeys past lush green fields, distant mountains and trees swaying in the wind. The first stop on the tour is the foothills of the Batukaru mountains, where your professional and knowledgeable guide will take you through the unique farming practices practised here.
Carved into the hillsides of the foothills are intricate and pleasing-to-the-eye rice paddy terraces, tended to by the people of the nearby remote village of Jatiluwih. Jatiluwih is a remote village where the traditional Balinese way of life still stands. Not only will you get to explore this pretty village, but also learn about how its community lives off the lush and fertile land. The volcanic soil found in this area means that a whole variety of crops and food can be grown here, ranging from flowers to vegetables, spices and tropical fruits.
After exploring Jatiluwih and its surrounding farmland, explore more of rural Bali with a short walk looking out to Mount Batukaru, hiking through dense forest. The walk will lead you to the magnificent temple complex of the Pura Luhur Batukaru Temple. Among the most prestigious of Bali’s Hindu temples, your guide will lead you around the complex of the Batukaru temple, pointing out features of its elegant and unique architecture as well as its scenic and tranquil setting.
Once you’ve explored one of Bali’s most picturesque and revered temples, you’ll have the opportunity to stop off at a local restaurant during the return journey. Here refreshments can be purchased at your own expense. Following the short rest stop at the restaurant, the minivan will then bring you straight back to your hotel, so you can make the most of the rest of your afternoon and evening in Bali.
