Following breakfast this morning, we take a rickshaw ride to explore the narrow alleys of Old Delhi, shaped by the influence of past empires. We drive via the Red Fort, famous for its enchanting history and dazzling architecture, and visit Jama Masjid, India’s largest mosque, and the Chandni Chowk market, with its lively atmosphere bursting with exotic sights, sounds, and scents. This afternoon, we view some of the iconic landmarks of New Delhi, including India Gate and Parliament House. We also visit Humayun’s Tomb, the 16th-century UNESCO World Heritage Site where the Mughal Emperor lies.

Following our sightseeing, we transfer to Delhi railway station to join the magnificent Deccan Odyssey for an incredible rail adventure. Inside, each of the train’s cabins is inspired by a different royal era of Maharashtra, and its restaurants are authentically designed and in keeping with the style and grace of Indian royalty. Tour Highlight
Where else could our visit to Agra begin than with the majestic Taj Mahal? A symbol of love built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife, it took 20,000 workers over 20 years to complete. Witnessing first-hand the symmetrical columns crafted from white marble, which were transported across the country on caravans of elephants and camels, is simply breathtaking. Following lunch, we explore the magnificent Agra Fort. A seat of power for three generations of the Mughal Empire, it provides a fascinating glimpse into the rich history and architectural brilliance of the era. Later, as evening falls, we reconvene on the Deccan Odyssey for dinner and continue our journey towards Sawai Madhopur.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Following breakfast, we disembark and travel to a local village to experience rural life in Rajasthan. These villages are home to friendly tribal communities whose livelihoods depend on farming and hunting. We learn about their traditions, admire the colourful attire of the women against the desert backdrop, and engage with a welcoming local family in their home. Returning to the train for lunch, this afternoon’s highlight is a safari in the wilderness of Ranthambore National Park. Once the private hunting ground of the Maharajas of Jaipur, the park now showcases India’s tiger conservation efforts. With an opportunity to spot tigers, deer, gazelle, wild boar, antelope, sloth bear, leopard, crocodiles and more, make sure you have your camera ready!
Breakfast, lunch and dinner
This morning, we arrive at our next stop, Udaipur, nestled beside the serene waters of Lake Pichola. Enjoy breakfast whilst taking in the view of the surrounding Aravali Hills. Explore the famous City Palace and marvel at the architecture adorned with gracefully curved arches, intricately carved balconies and beautiful domed roofs. A cruise on the serene waters of Lake Pichola brings our morning’s sightseeing to a close. Following lunch, we talk a walking tour through the old city and explore the lively and colourful bazzar, which still retains its local charm. As the day winds down, we gather back on board Deccan Odyssey for dinner.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Today we arrive into the ‘Blue City’ of Jodhpur. Known for its blue-painted houses, Jodhpur is a magnificent fort town with exceptional Rajput-era architecture. Following lunch onboard the Deccan Odyssey, our afternoon adventure begins with a tuk-tuk ride through the city’s bustling streets. Take a walk through the Old Clock Tower market, before returning to our train for the evening.

This 15th-century fort stands tall at 100 metres over the town and glows golden in the Indian sun. Next, we visit Nathmal ki Haveli. Built it the 19th century by two brothers who started construction from opposite ends, the haveli, is a beautiful fusion of Islamic and Rajputana styles of architecture. We return to our train for lunch, before heading into the desert dunes for sundowners. Hopefully we capture stunning sunset photos against the backdrop of the sand dunes. We return to the Deccan Odyssey, for dinner.
