As we continue to celebrate our 10 year anniversary, we revisit the original tours that pioneered Distant Journeys, which have truly stood the test of time and are still some of our most popular today.

In 2014, Distant Journeys launched with just three tours across Australia and New Zealand, our 22-day Wonders of Australia, 24-day Magnificent New Zealand and 31-day Highlights of Australia & New Zealand.

And just as we have always done, each tour includes a two or three-night stopover on your way to Australia or New Zealand too, giving you a chance to explore the likes of Singapore, Bangkok or Dubai, and we have incredible homebound stopover offers for you to choose from as well.

Wonders of Australia

On this unforgettable tour of Australia, you can look forward to visiting the cosmopolitan cities of Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, each with their own distinctive character. You will witness the sunset over Uluru, the sandstone monolith sacred to the local indigenous people, and spend a full day enjoying the living masterpiece that is the Great Barrier Reef.

When creating this itinerary, we wanted to include as many unique experiences as possible, one of which is an all inclusive overnight stay on one the world’s greatest railway journeys, The Ghan. Magnificent New Zealand

On our essential tour of New Zealand we explore the country’s breath-taking scenery of high mountain peaks, deep fiords, lush rainforests and ancient glaciers, and discover its vibrant, modern cities.

Highlights which continue to shine today include time spent learning more about New Zealand’s rich Maori culture, and unforgettable cruises on Milford Sound and the Bay of Islands. In Rotorua, we attend a Maori concert featuring traditional song and dance, including the world-famous war dance – The Haka. Only when out cruising on the magnificent Milford Sound can the dramatic scenery be fully appreciated: sheer peaks rise all around and spectacular waterfalls cascade into the calm waters below.

Our 31-day Highlights of Australia & New Zealand is the ultimate tour of the land down under and was created 10 years ago to explore these two great countries at a leisurely pace, with all the must-see sights and once in a lifetime experiences perfectly packaged into one amazing holiday.

When you think of New Zealand, its incredible pooling lakes, geysers and sky-high snow-capped mountains spring to mind, and you’ll see them all as part of your New Zealand highlights tour. But that’s only half of the adventure. Australia’s tour includes the raw and rugged outback and spectacular sights of Uluru; the cosmopolitan city of Sydney; tropical Queensland and of course, the breath-taking Great Barrier Reef.
